A form based promotion allows users to enter a promotion by submitting certain details. This could include files or images, and can be used in conjunction with a journey to trigger further actions, e.g. to award points. In this example, we will create a promotion where participants can submit a photo of their in-store product display to go in the draw to win a prize.

For more information on managing promotions, view the Day to Day Management - Promotions tutorial here.

You should already have KPromotions installed in the relevant website.

1 Go to Content, then Promotions, and click Add new promotion.

2 Select the Form-based competition entry promotion type.

3 Enter a name for the promotion, and select the relevant website, then click Next to continue.

4 Enter the dates that the promotion will be active and set the status to Active, then click Next to continue.

5 In this example, we won't display any additional content, so click Next to continue.

6 Select the eligible users for the promotion. In this case, the promotion will be available to the Participants group. Click Next to continue.

7 Next the settings for the submission form can be configured.

  • Select whether submissions require approval
  • Choose whether participants can enter the promotion multiple times or only once
  • Select the entry type - in this example, users will upload an image
  • Choose whether non-logged in users can submit the form
  • You can require users to select a product, and to select an organisation, if it is necessary
  • The custom fields section can be used to add fields for users to submit as part of the form if required, by dragging and dropping a field, then editing it.

8 Click Next to continue.

9 Click Finished, and the promotion will be created.

Next we will edit the website to display the promotion.

10 Go to Content, then Edit web pages, and create a page to display the form on.

11 Open KEditor for the new page and add containers to structure the page layout.

12 Filter by Rewards & promotions to add the Display competition form component.

13 Open the settings for the form, and select the relevant promotion.

Choose whether to display photo submissions from other users, and how to show these.

The display of the form can be configured as required.

14 Save and close KEditor.

15 Add a link to the new page, e.g. in the menu.

Remember to select the group visibility if the promotion should only be available to certain users.

For a refresher on how to update the menu, refer to the tutorial here.

Next we will log in as a test user to submit the form.

16 Log in as a user in the relevant group, and navigate to the competition page.

17 Upload a photo, and submit the entry form.

18 If you log in as a different test user in the relevant group, the previously uploaded submission will be displayed in the photo gallery.

19 To view the entries as an administrator, go to Content, then Promotions, and select the promotion.

The entries can be viewed as a list of users, or a gallery of images.

At the end of the promotion, the winners can be selected, and displayed on the competition page.

20 On the promotion overview page, click Edit winner announcement message.

Enter the message to display detailing the winners of the competition, and click Next to save the message.

You could extend on this by creating a journey to award points when a photo is submitted, or when it is approved. To learn more about journeys, view the tutorial here.
